REFLECTIVE THOUGHTS ON THE BLOG SO FAR

Ted - 17 January 2013
Though we will continue to write about the issues so far in this blog and review upcoming reports, we wanted to take a moment and reflect. Through our reviews and our own work in Egypt, we have increasingly come to understand that research is inherently geared to audiences that make only limited difference. Though governments and institutions have very distinct roles to play, we are reminded of Dewey's work that suggests, either for good or bad, that schools are reflections of their societies. Indeed, they are, and thus we increasingly realize how critical it is for us to focus on society in addition to the institutions and governments that provide educational services. People make decisions, both in the enrollment and employment categories, and educational institutions respond. It is imperative that we find new ways to help people make good decisions regarding their educational experiences.
